Young love...

We’ve just decided to move and only got a new puppy last week too so I’ve been up to my eyeballs trying to sort out dog insurance as well as sell my property! Crazy I know, but sometimes you can’t time these things. The puppy was supposed to come once we’d moved, but the one we wanted was cheaper than anywhere else and we knew we couldn’t get the same one for that price anywhere else since she’s such a rare breed.
Anyway, while I was packing things up in preparation for the big move next month I stumbled across the lyrics for an old song I wrote in my early twenties. It’s about a girlfriend I had in my teens who broke my heart (the last thing you want to find when you’re trying to sell your flat! -well I’m over it now, but I guess it just brought it all back for a minute or two!

Here it is:

Single parent, only daughter to raise. Situation of tragic circumstance. He filled her life with criticism and praise. When she told him ‘Daddy, I wanna dance!’
His little girl had grown up so fast. And he’d expected that her childhood should lastBut what could she do? She was just her Daddy’s Girl
Just a baby when Mummy had died, Lonely Daddy with child but no wife. I’ll raise you well my child though I’m dying inside And if needs be i will give up my life.
His little girl was a lover of mine. We were quite happy but for just a short time. But what can you say when you play with Daddy’s girl?
Love is funny when you’re stupid and young.Infatuation’s the term. Being together didn’t end up much funBut hey - we live and we learn.
When baby grows up you have to let go. Even though it feels it cuts like a knife. Baby will come back, baby loves you so. But being free is so important in life
So who was I to get in the way? Daddy’s girl, you’ll probably make it one day. And when you get to the top I will say, “I knew that Daddy’s Girl”…
