I buy cosmetics online–
And no, I’m not ugly or conceded;
I just think my cellulite is quite unneeded!
That’s right everyone–
I’m not perfect like a model–
I have blotches and a butt that waddles!
But don’t be too surprised–
With the world so vain,
I’m sure Sarah Palin bought a few cosmetics during her campaign!

Author Biog:
Hey. My name is Wendy and I wrote the piece you just read. Yeah– I know it’s not Toni Morrison material, but it does try to make a “point” against not only cosmetics but also general attitudes towards women and beauty.
You see, it’s not the face or the body that makes the woman. Of course, being born ‘pretty’ does help, but in Western culture, natural beauty only goes so far. What really makes models and actresses perfect is all of the makeup they use.
Don’t believe me? Test the theory for yourself. Google the name of any celebrity, making sure you add the term “no makeup.” You will notice a remarkable difference in their appearance. The people that seemed so perfect on TV have just as many problems as the rest of us.
In fact, a few years ago actress Jamie Lee Curtis revealed how she looked in real life. She agreed to take a photo without any girdles or makeup. The result was astounding. She actually had a gut and unclear skin. But to me her appearance in that photo was the most beautiful she’s ever been because she took down the façade. She let people know that she is a human being and not a Barbie doll.
However, I don’t want to mislead people. There’s nothing wrong with putting on makeup to make yourself look better. There is nothing wrong with cosmetic surgery or beauty treatments that so many people use on a regular basis. As a matter of fact, that’s the main point my poem is trying to make! If celebrities use makeup to make themselves look better, why can’t you?
